Specifications and OptionsThe pilothouse offers excellent visibility through its numerous windows. It is 9’ long by 6’8" wide with 6’ 6" of headroom. The typical helm station layout offered is a starboard side helm station (seated) giving the pilot excellent visibility through three forward windows. The center window opens allowing unobstructed vision in foul weather and great ventilation in hot weather. All four of the side windows open for ventilation. Passenger seating is provided by two forward facing seats and four center facing seats (optional interior layouts possible). The house also features a stand-up head and can be equipped with a galley featuring a 2 burner stove (that does double duty as a cabin heater) and sink. For charter fishing the boat will be equipped with side bench seats, while owners expecting fewer guests will prefer the layout with a small dinette. The ProcessThe ChilKat 30 is built using the Vacuum Infusion Process. This innovative process not only insures uniformity from boat to boat but also means each boat we build has higher fiberglass to resin content, meaning you get a stronger, lighter boat. We build our boats using only the highest quality vinyl ester resins for the best quality boat. Instead of hand laminating each part, all of our parts are made by first laying all of our fiberglass and core materials into the mold dry. When we are satisfied that the materials are laid out properly, we place a vacuum bag over the entire mold and pull almost a full atmosphere of vacuum inside the bag. After this has been done and the bag has been checked for leaks we introduce the resin all at once into the part, flooding it in a matter of minutes. When the fiberglass has filled with resin we stop the flow and, retaining the vacuum, allow the part to fully cure inside the bag.
