The ChilKat 30 Power Catamaran
Alaskan waters require boats that are durable and able to handle inclimate weather, travel long distances and operate in rough seas comfortably. At Black Feather Boats we realized a need in Alaska for boats that were tough, fast, stable and versatile. The result is the ChilKat 30.
The ChilKat 30 catamaran, with its spacious decks, quick turn of speed and extraordinary stability is a fisherman’s or hunter's dream, and a very steady work platform.
Power
The boat is designed to be powered by twin outboard motors with 25” shafts. With the use of new four stroke outboards the ChilKat 30 is quite fuel efficient offering a 700 mile cruising range on her twin 125 gallon fuel tanks, and we are seeing fuel consumption averages of 9 to 10 gallons per hour at 30 knots cruise. Top speeds of up to 42 knots are achievable when outfitted with twin 225 hp outboards.
Agility
A true planing craft, the hull lifts onto step quickly with very little change in attitude. The boat’s long narrow hulls provide wonderful tracking ability but leave it's agility unhindered; because of its widely spaced motors, it has the capacity to turn quickly and maneuver at any speed. In the harbor the ChilKat can be turned inside of its own wake to make docking a much more enjoyable task.
Room to Work
The walk around pilothouse offers easy access from the 4’ x 10’ fore deck to the 9’ x 10’aft deck, giving plenty of room for carrying gear or hauling up that monster halibut. Side decks along the house are a comfortable 20 inches wide. Welded stainless steel bow rails run all the way around to the aft end of the house at a comfortable height of 36". The aft deck measures 30" from gunwhale to cockpit sole and an optional stern rail is available, although many fisherman prefer to leave it off for ease of landing fish.
